I love this. Can’t wait to get the details for size and how many skeins used. Thx!!
53″ x 46″ 12 skeins. Its at the top of the page. 😉
I am having a problem with crocheting a blanket for my king size bed. When I get to the end of a row I add 4 chain stitches, turn and start my next row. I found out that my blanket is getting wider and wider. My question to you is how many chain stitches is required to advance to the next row? I am using a crochet hook for this blanket. Your assistance is greatly appreciated.
Youtube video stated we could find number of skeins needed here but there is no info.
12 Skeins of Premier Yarns Debra Norville Serenity Active in Dark Grey was used as stated in the article, just below the video and above in the comment section above your post, though the skein info may have added after your posting. Happy Stitching
I saw this on YouTube !!! I can’t wait for the finished product and info. ???? I wanna start mine asap! Thx 4 sharing!
Such awesome projects! Well presented!
I am wanting to make this, but long enough for my 6ft 7 husband. How many skeins do you think id need? I’m using bulky 6 in Bernat yarn.
I am wondering the same thing… If I want this blanket wider and not as long?
On the first row she says to crochet 30. Them to turn and start in second one and crochet 30. On the first row do I actually do 31 so when I turn it and start in the second chain I actually get 30. Or do I’ll only do 30 in first row and then 2 and other rows have 29. Does this make sense?
Still no info on number of skeins used?????
The size of 53″ x 46″ and using 12 Skeins of Premier Yarns Debra Norville Serenity Active in Dark Grey, posted in messages and posted in the article above. The skeins need was posted under the video and the size follows the message about the optional tassels at the end of Maggie’s post and prior to all the pictures showing her beautiful arm crocheted afghan. Happy stitching
here it is and I copied it from top of this page:

In the comments above (Sept 30)!
Do you think it’s possible to make this blanket using this pattern with the Premier Couture Jazz Yarn rather than the type used in the video?
Can you wash this blanket in a washing machine?
I watched a few videos on how to crotchet and hand knit and they were so confusing. But after I watched your video it all made perfect sense. As a child my mom tried to teach me how to crotchet and knit, but i just couldn’t get it. Now that I actually want to learn it for my self, you made it so much easier. After watching a few of your tutorials, I immediately ran to the store and bough yarn. Waiting for the kids to fall asleep and I will be on my way. So I just want to say Thank you so much for your Tutorials. All of sudden being a stay at home mom isn’t to bad after all. Hope to see more creative things from you.
Love your blog! Made a
Chunky throw and would like to add a
Personal touch as well. What did you use for your simply Maggie label at the bottom of throw?
The number of skeins is written under the video.

Does anybody know where I can order that tiny metal label that was attached to the project? Thank you!
Great video and directions! Thanks=) Gonna give this a try
I loved your tutorial. I’m making one but I think it’s very different, I don’t know why. And it’s taking me forever! It’s been two days since I begun lol
My yarn is thinner than yours, do you think that’s the reason?
I am wondering if I could do this with the Couture Jazz yarn- working one strand instead of 3. Any thoughts? I think it will take about 20 skeins.
How many skeins would I need to use to use the same pattern of this blanket for an 80″x90″ blanket?
How do you add additional skeins in order to make a longer blanket?
Hi, i wanted to experiment making one of these but the skeins are all different lengths… anybody know how many yards were needed for either this or the arm knitted blanket?
I was wondering the same thing. I did look this yarn up and it seems to be 84yd which means it is a small skein as the ones I bought are 209yds so this may only take 6 skeins if you bought large cakes like I did.
Hi Maggie,
Thank you for this article ! But I have some questions. Did you use 12 skeins in all or did you use 3×12 skeins since you tripled the yarn to reach the 36 rows ?!
And do you think I can triple this yarn to arm knit a blanket ?!
Thank you 🙂
[…] Simply Maggie shows that she’s just as good at hand crochet as arm knitting in her video tutorial for a chunky blanket. The PDF pattern for the blanket is available for download here. […]
Why is this shown on All Free Crochet, but you charge $3.00 for the pattern?
Maggie I just wanna say thank you so much for your tutorials !! By watching your tutorials, I have arm knitted and crocheted a blanket. I must say though, I like the hand crochet better..it didn’t leave the big holes like arm knitting. I made my first one yesterday. Still working on it. Gotta get more yarn. Oh and I would love to stitch my name in the corner just like yours. Do you have a tutorial for that too?

I found your finger crochet blanket by accident. Best accident ever. I have made two of them and they are fluffy and beautiful. The blankets work up pretty fast too. These will make awesome Christmas gifts.
I’m so excited to try this! Wondering how to attach new yarn when I run out of the first 3 skeins!

I’ve started this blanket a couple times and each time I seem to end up decreasing stitches and what is supposed to be a rectangular blanket ends up being a triangle/trapezoid shape. Do you have any suggestions? I’ve been doing the chain at the end. I thought it was just that my stitches were tighter as I got farther through but I’m pretty sure I started with about 30 stitches and ended up with 10-15 when I gave up.
Would appreciate any help! Thanks!
Do you have a video on how to do a triple knot and attach the new skeins when you run out of your first three that you use? I’m starting this for the first time and just purchased the pattern and my yarn and I”m concerned about what happens when I run out of the first three skeins…attaching the next row. A video would be helpful or anything else you can share. Thanks!
I’ve left a comment before but it’s not showing up. Could you please explain better how to add new skeins? I’m stuck and can’t continue until I know how to do this and I purchased your download. Thanks
Thank you so much for this video! It was helpful in getting started (I’ve never crocheted anything in my life). It made for a nice, accomplishing Sunday afternoon! I started off with 2 skeins of the same color 1 different to give it a little fun coloring. I am going to get have to get the other 6 to 9 skeins to finish. Thanks again!!!
You have some incredible projects and your videos are very well presented. Thank you!
I have been attempting to hand crochet this blanket the ends of my rows are not even what am I doing wrong
I would love to see how you added skeins of yarn to your working yarn.
Can you tell me how to change skeins? I am very new and would like to know how you did that. I doubt there are skeins long enough for me not to have to do that. Thank you.
I’ve made one for my 6’5” husband and I had 12 skeins of yarn and I had 48 loops on my arm. It turn out to be long enough and it was roughly 4’ wide. I’m not sure how to put a picture up.

Hi Maggie! I love your videos! I’m going to start this blanket but I have #5 Bulky as opposed to #6 Super Bulky. You used three strands for yours. How many strands would you think I need to attain the same chunkiness you have in your blanket? Thank you in advance!

I am having trouble with my rows being uneven on one side, my blanket is getting narrower as I continue. I have taken it apart more times that I can count, not sure what I am doing wrong. Please belp, hoping to get it finished for my niece for Christmas.
Thanks
