My Grandpa has made these for as long as I can remember and they have always been my favorite main dish. I really don’t know why I waited so long to try to make these.
Well at last, I gave it a shot and they are pretty delicious! Not as good as Grandpas, but I’m sure he has a secret ingredient or two.
What you’ll need:
2 medium heads of cabbage
1 1/2 lbs (raw) ground beef
2 cups (cooked) white rice
1 or 2 cloves garlic
Garlic powder (optional)
Salt and pepper to taste
1/4 to 1/2 cup chopped/minced yellow onion
Start by coring and then boiling your cabbage for 5 minutes to soften for rolling. Also cook your rice.
Mix your cooked rice, beef, onion, garlic, salt and pepper together.
Strain the cabbage and begin peeling leaves off one by one.
Take 2-3 tablespoons of your meat/rice mixture and roll into a cabbage leaf. Folding the sides of the leaf in as you roll. Do this until you have run out of your cabbage or meat.
This should make between 20 and 30 golumpkies.
Next cover them and bake at 350 degrees for 1 hour.
Enjoy!
I made some good ol’ mashed potatoes and salad with a homemade balsamic dressing to go along with these. I also prepared a tomato sauce to put over the golumpkies and even my potatoes.

Yummy they taste even better the next day…after sitting in the frig!
My family has always had golumpki also but we make it with ground sausage, like Bob Evans brand. That gives you a lot of seasonings without the onion or garlic. Came from my polish side.
