This was a trial and error project for me since I was not following a pattern. The edges ended up curling because I used the stockinette stitch on the entire scarf. I ended up doing a single crochet edging around the entire scarf to keep it from curling too much but of course it’s not perfect. So I will be updating this pattern this week but for now if you’re not super picky you can grab the yarn for around $2.50 and have a nice light spring scarf.
Materials:
One skein of Baby Softees yarn
Size 15 10mm circular knitting needles
Pattern:
Cast on 170 stitches (I used the Long Tail cast on method)
Make sure your stitches are not twisted on your needle and then join in the round.
Knit for 30 rows
Bind off
I did the single crochet around the edge after binding off but it didn’t help too much so that is optional.
You can wear it wrapped twice or three times. It’s super soft, very light and CHEAP!!
To purchase the yarn I used go HERE.
To purchase similar circular needles to what I use go HERE.
Enjoy!

Hi! I loooove the arm knitting! I’ve made a couple scarfs and my friends love them too! I had my blanket almost done and then my daughter decided to grab it and run in circles with it tangling it all up lol but I will attempt to make another one soon! Question, have you thought about knitting your own sweater? I really want to and the video tutorials I come across are in french so I don’t understand them. It would be great if you knitted one and showed the rest of us!
Hello! I would love to try and knit a light summer sweater but am not an advanced knitter. I will give it a shot soon and let you all know how it turns out:)
This is such a great pattern, and it was so much fun!! However I made the mistake of doing the entire thing in a day, and now my wrists are mad at me…Thank you for posting this!! π
Oh I know that feeling!! I am making an updated version at the moment to see if I can get the edges to stop curling. It should be up by the end of the month!
Where do you get your yarn?
I get the majority of it at AC Moore.
I didn’t have the curling problem when I knit the whole thing. It didn’t look quite like yours, either, tho. Just started another knitting one row, then purling one. NOW I have the curling, AND it looks more like yours.
When I initially commented I clicked the “Notify me when new comments are added” checkbox and
now each time a comment is added I get four emails with the same comment.
Is there any way you can remove me from that service?
Bless you!
Hm I’m not sure. I didn’t even know that option was available. I’ll see if I can go back and find your comment but if not try flagging the emails as spam in your email?
Sorry about that!
Did you use 40″ size 15 circular needles?
Update on Spring Infinity Scarf ?
I think your so talented! and its so awesome your sharing all the steps to diys :)… the curl in the scarf is cute.. thanks for teaching me how to do so much cool stuff! Im loving it! lol.. π
Hi, i made a few of the arm knitting scarves, i only know how to do regular scarves besides that, I am kind of confused by your directions, do i literally make 170 stitches then knit them all through 30 times? I feel like it would take me a year!!!
Yes, that’s right. It goes by faster then you think.
I love the curl! It’s a great edge detail. Makes it look so soft and cuddly.
I made this scarf in a chunky weight yarn and really loved it. I also loved the curl. Beautiful just beautiful. Thanks
Maggie, do you know the metric conversion for the size 15 needles? I looked it up on a conversion chart and it said 10 mm which seems quite big for baby yarn.
I’m sure that’s right. It makes a loose knit.
10mm would be the metric size of these needles.
You really put together a lot of terrific points throughout your
blog post, βSpring Knit Infinity Scarf | simplymaggie.comβ.
I may possibly be heading back to your page before long.
Many thanks -Doretha

Can this scarf be knitted on straight needles, then twisted in the middle and sewn together?
Can’t get the hang of circular needles.
Maggie,
I love your scarf and may try it soon. I made up a similar pattern and instead of all knit, I knit 2 and purled one. This made kind of a diagonal pattern and did not roll. You must have an odd number of stiches for this to work. Happy knitting!
Do you have to use circular? Could you use regular then stitch them together?
Hi… I’ve learned , from having things curl up when started in stockinet stitch, to simply do a couple rows of a K1P1 rib border. It doesn’t make a real pronounced rib, but enough to keep things from curling. π
i am getting ready to do te scarf for a friend it thank you for making it so simple that you can read but with the 15 inch needles do what size of cord will i need
thank you for your time

The rolling at the edges actually causes a nice effect!
I am going to knit this using seed stitch or moss stitch. This gives interest and no curling. I have already made one looks great. Thank you.
Did you figure out how to keep the springy cowl from curling???? Just wondering.I am dying to try it !!!! Thanks!
I just ended up leaving it. But if you knit the first couple and last couple rows with a rib stitch that will fix the issue:)
How long is the scarf, like length wise?
My Friend loves this pattern, I am defiantly looking forward to knitting this Thank You!!!!
when you say “knit for 30 rows” what do you mean? I’ve never knit before so I’m not sure what kind of stitch or whatever you mean?

the picture states stockinet at but directions state knit 30 rows. Clarification needed for our beginner knitters.
With arm knitting, knitting all rows creates the look of the stockinette stitch.
Are we supposed to use a 40″ cord on the size 15 circular needles? There are different choices for cord lengths.
Thanks,
Gigi
Yes, 40″ π
Hi Maggie,
I casted on 170 stitches on a 32″ US15 needle but the stitches are all stretched out on the needle making it impossible to knit into/join in the round. I’ve now changed to a 24″ cord and it seems more manageable. I’m using the same yarn that you used, and there is no way that the 170 stitches can be knitted on the 40″ needle. Did you use the magic loop method or some other magic? What gives?
Thanks,
Sandy
I can’t seem to download instructions. The program that you are using or that shows on this web site I have downloaded before and it should be on my computer. I am not sure how to find it or if I have to be in it to get the download to work. When that comes up I just back out so I don’t download it a 2nd time, but then don’t know how to get where I can just download it by clicking something. Please help. Love the scarf.
Hello. It’s not downloadable. Simply view the pattern in this blog post.
Love the pattern, hate the way stockinette stitch curls so I did 4 rows of garter stitch at the beginning and the end and it pretty much eliminated the problem.
