I have wanted a veggie garden for years! We bought our home almost 4 years ago and have the yard space for it we just never got around to it. Since I have been really upping my intake of vegetables and fruits the last year I’d love to be able to grow my own and save on the grocery bill.
The first year of gardening will be the most work as far as research, building, preparing, etc. I have been reading blogs and forums for the past few weeks trying to learn as many helpful tips on successful gardening as I can. I just ordered my organic vegetable and herb seeds Monday and received them Wednesday (fast shipping!) from this website www.organicseedpeople.com. They offered free shipping for orders over $35.00 and discounts on different seed brands. So I spent some time picking out the veggies and herbs I eat the most and placed an order.
I ordered:
1 x Beet, Golden 5g Seeds/pkt. Organic Seed (IEOBE106)
1 x Beet, Bulls Blood 5g Seeds/pkt. Organic Seed (IEOBE105)

My next step on my “Garden To-Do List” is to find as many budget friendly ways to start seeds indoors. So far I saved a couple of those plastic containers that your salad greens come in. Like this:
These are great to save because they have covers and they help with keeping in heat/humidity during the germination process.
Once the seeds have sprouted you no longer need the covers, because keeping in too much humidity could cause “Dampening Off” and other diseases.
Here are some budget-friendly seed starting ideas as far as what to plant the Starting Medium and seed in. Click the image below to head over to the blog post of seed starting container ideas.
Stay tuned for my future gardening posts. I will be sharing all of my tips and ideas over the next few months to help other beginner gardeners. I hope to have a successful, bountiful garden to feed me, my husband and some family and friends. My idea is to keep all the gardening posts under the category DIY so it’s all in one place and easy for you to find.
Spring is almost here! Some other posts I will be sharing are going to be about:
-DIY Seed Marker Ideas
-Gardening Zones and Seed Starting Schedule (When to plant indoors and transplant outdoors)
-Garden Bed Ideas and Plans
-Composting 101 (Including DIY Compost Bins)
-Garden Tool Organization
…And I’m sure there will be many others as I come across helpful ideas.
If you have any requests leave them below!
