Here is my video tutorial showing you how to Arm Knit the Linen Stitch. It’s a little different than the usual knit stitch you see in a lot of Arm Knitting tutorials. This stitch will give you a tighter looking knit piece, with smaller holes.
Watch the video below and then scroll down to get the pattern for the cowl.
Material:
-One skein of Lion Brand Wool Ease Thick and Quick in the color Oatmeal
That’s it!
Pattern:
-Pull one strand from the center of the skein and one strand from the outside of the skein and knit with both strands at one time as if they are one.
-Make a slip knot and slide it onto your right arm
-Cast on 20 stitches using the long tail cast on method
-Arm Knit the linen stitch for 19 rows
-Bind off loosely using the usual bind off method
-Fold your piece in half inside out and sew the ends
-Weave in the ends and cut the excess
Enjoy!

Hi Maggie! I love your tutorials! Thank you. I recently started arm/finger knitting and I love it. I made one of your cowls. I will try this linen stitch next. I also want to make a blanket.
I was wondering if you have any patterns for an arm or finger knit hat? What about a dog bed :)?
Thanks!
Rebeca
Hi there! I’m glad you have enjoyed my patterns and tutorials. No patterns for those at this time but check back through the winter, I’ll be adding new patterns over the next couple of months.
So darn cool!!! I love this!
Hi Maggie. I’m attempting to use the linen stitch to make a scarf. The only thing I can’t seem to figure out if how to get two strands from one skein of yarn. I know you had said one from the outside and one from the center. I can only find one end to use. Do you have any advice as to how I can figure this out?
Go into the center of the skein and pull out the clump of yarn. The other end is in there.
Is one skein enough to make more than 19 rows? I would like to make one longer so it isnt so tight around my neck.
do you have any patterns for smaller boot cuffs?
How would you convert arm knitting to knitting needles? I would love to make a blanket/throw but do not want it quit so open. I am very new to knitting and have been making cowls and head bands using circular needles. thank you!
[…] because it was really wore at my arms because it needed so many stitches across. Maggie teaches the linen stitch and the the garter stitch. I found the garter stitch to be prettier so I thought I would try that […]
