We had been talking about and planning this pregnancy for a while now. A couple of years really. We have been married for over 8 years and have grown so strong as a couple. So we started trying in June.
I met with my OB/gyn on Thursday, July 9th, 2015 and discussed prenatal vitamins, had a routine exam and then headed home.
I was supposed to start my period that weekend on Sunday, maybe Saturday night (my periods are very regular). Well I had been feeling a bit crampy for the last 3 or 4 days, consistently, and that wasn’t quite normal for me. My boobs were also heavier, not bigger, just heavier than they normally get before my period. So Friday came along and I didn’t think much of anything until I had to pee and I saw the pregnancy tests I had stocked up on since we decided we were going to start trying. I decided to open one up and give it a try. I set it on the floor and left the bathroom to make the bed. I came back in a minute later to see one bold line and one very faint line which means pregnant. I brought my hands to my face in shock and I’m pretty sure I said “nuh uh” or “no way”. I quickly thanked Jesus and decided I need to take another test! Haha, Keep in mind, this is two whole days before I was supposed to get my period and the test actually came back positive. I drank a ton of water, peed on another test and again, one bold line, one very faint line and I started pacing and cleaning my house! That’s usually what I do when I become anxious or overwhelmed.
My husband was at work while all of this was taking place. I texted him and told him that I was heading out to run a few errands and that I’d be back in an hour in case I wasn’t there when he came home from work. So I headed to target and bought more tests, yes more. And this time I wanted the ones where it said “PREGNANT” in bold letters. I peed on a total of 8 pregnancy tests. My husband came home and I didn’t waste any time. I walked down the stairs to our living room where he was standing and said “So, here’s the thing…” holding the tests in my hands, and his face lit up!
It really did happen so incredibly fast! 3 weeks, BAM!
So here I am on July 17, 2015, 4 weeks and 1 day pregnant.
Guys, I was pregnant when I went to my OB/gyn to talk about conceiving haha! I called my doctor on Monday and made an appointment. They will see me when I am 8 weeks along, so my first prenatal appointment is on August 12th, at 8:45am.
Now, let’s talk symptoms for anyone else who is about to start trying or just found out they are pregnant and they want all of the information they can find which is how I’ve been.
3 Weeks Symptoms:
-Heavy boobs, kind of like water balloons!
-Cramping, like period cramps, but more consistent and started sooner. I really thought I was getting my period even after I had a few positive pregnancy tests.
-Pinching in my ovary and uterus area.
-Heartburn. Slight and not every day, but I never get heartburn so this was something I noticed right away.
-I started to want eggs for breakfast. I don’t like eggs, they normally gross me out and I have been allergic to non-organic eggs for the past 10 years.
4 Weeks Symptoms:
-Great sleep! Finally. I have been having trouble sleeping well at night for the past few months and now that I am growing a little babe inside I guess my body knows I need the rest now more than ever.
-Boobs are getting a tad heavier/fuller every other day, but no soreness yet.
-Still have that egg craving so I bought some organic eggs and have been having an omelet for breakfast almost every morning. Weird!
-Slight cramping and “twinging”. Not consistently anymore, it comes and goes and only last about 10 seconds or less.
-Head aches. I usually get a couple headaches a week anyway in my neck, bottom of my head. These pregnancy headaches are every other day if not every day this week and are all over my head. Tylenol only takes the edge off.
-Energy in the morning! I started running (and a little walking) 2 miles on the treadmill almost every day this week being careful not to over heat my body.
-Fatigue in the afternoon. I just want to lounge once 2pm comes around. And I will, since before I know it, I’ll have a little one needing my undivided attention.
-Mood swings/easily irritated. Don’t bug me!
I am going to be very careful with not overloading on salt or sweets throughout this pregnancy. I am going to be gaining weight anyway so why would I want the unnecessary bloat I normally get from eating too much of either one of those.
Belly Shot:
Here I am at 4 weeks and any type of bloating in this picture is from my breakfast.
5 Weeks Symptoms:
-The tender boobs have arrived! Along the sides and bottoms and even the nips are sore.
-Bloat and constipation. This is something I deal with on and off because I have Ulcerative Colitis, but this week it has been painful bloating to where I can’t let my stomach out. I have to suck it in which is tiring! It could have been due to the dairy I started eating the past week and the extra meat since I thought my body was telling me to eat it. I have one of the most confusing bodies when it comes to digestion. I’ll be cutting back on dairy next week for sure!
-Fatigue. My legs feel so heavy walking up stairs and the couch seems extra inviting. I will not be lazy, I will not be lazy, I will not be lazy. I have to tell myself this so that I don’t turn into a couch potato. I know that my busy season for my businesses is right around the corner so that will help with my fight to stay off the couch! Come on August.
-Light cramps a few times a day that last no more than a few seconds at a time.
-Food cravings. Already? Only one, really. Cinnamon and sugar toast which I haven’t had in years! So I had it for breakfast over the weekend and it was totally satisfying.
6-11 Weeks Symptoms:
So weeks 6-11 have basically been all of the same symptoms.
-The mood swings have slowed down over the past few weeks
-My appetite is WAY off. Nothing tastes or sounds good other than cold fruit, sandwiches, oatmeal or plain things like bagels and toast.
-I tend to get running legs at night before bed so I have to make sure I am heading off to bed by 9:30.
-Constipation is serious guys. I went 3 days in a row without going 1 week. Colace, water and fruit helped.
-Hormonal acne!! Please, please go away in the second trimester!
-Still short on breath and I rest a lot so that I don’t get too tired, but that’s inevitable when you’re in your first trimester.
Other than that I feel pretty great.

Congrats to the both of you!
Congrats on the wee one! It is the best experience in the universe, to have that tiny life inside. I parked my car and rode my bike everywhere while pregnant: I felt strong and beautiful and fit!
I so enjoy your arm knitting tutorials. I am an obsessed arm knitter now. Do you have a tutorial for the cream blanket in your pregnancy reveal video? (It looked like arm knitting?)
Enjoy these next months….time will pass so quickly!

Thank you Kathi!
That blanket is arm knit. I used Couture Jazz yarn and I arm knit it using the rib stitch which I’ll have a pattern and tutorial for before the end of the winter. So check back soon! 🙂
